Veterinary equipment often looks like it was borrowed from a human hospital, but a new design called Equihero takes a different path. It is an anatomical inhalation mask made specifically for horses receiving respiratory therapy. Instead of adapting human gear, the mask follows the natural shape of a horse's head, making the treatment process calmer and more effective.
The mask was created by the design studio 2s.design. Its form language is soft and organic, avoiding the cold, technical look of most medical devices. The goal was to reduce stress in animals that are already uneasy about treatment. Horses are sensitive to unfamiliar objects, especially around their faces. A mask that fits well and looks less intimidating can make a real difference during sessions.
Equihero is not just about comfort. The internal shape is designed to deliver medication evenly to the airways. A proper seal is essential for inhalation therapy, and the mask's geometry helps achieve that without pressing too hard on the animal's skin. The material is durable yet gentle, built to withstand daily use in a veterinary clinic.
The design also considers the handler. The mask is easy to put on and remove, with straps that adjust quickly. This saves time for veterinarians and reduces the chance of the horse pulling away mid-treatment. While the product is still in its design phase, it points to a broader trend: veterinary tools are becoming more species-specific and more thoughtful. A horse is not a small human, and its medical gear should not pretend otherwise.
