A local advocacy group is inviting residents to learn more about how surveillance technology is being used in their community. The Bend Privacy Alliance will hold a free public event called "Surveillance in Our Community" on Wednesday, August 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Central Library in Bend.
The gathering is designed as an open conversation about the increasing use of data-collection systems by government agencies, private companies, and other organizations. Organizers say the goal is to help everyday people understand what these tools are capable of, what kind of information they can gather, and how that data might be stored or shared.
Attendees will have the chance to ask questions and discuss the trade-offs between public safety and personal privacy. The event is open to anyone in the community, and no prior knowledge of the topic is needed. The alliance hopes the session will give residents a clearer picture of what is happening locally and what they can do to stay informed. Light refreshments will be provided.
