Envestnet is scaling up its commitment to the Tamarac platform, more than doubling its technology investment in the division. The move includes an additional $35 million in immediate funding, all part of a larger $1 billion, five-year research and development pledge aimed at modernizing tools for financial advisors.
The company says the increased capital will go toward rebuilding core infrastructure, improving data aggregation, and speeding up the delivery of new features within Tamarac. That platform is widely used by registered investment advisors and family offices for portfolio management, reporting, and client billing. The goal is to make the system more open and flexible, allowing advisors to integrate their own preferred tools without friction.
Executives describe this as a shift from incremental updates to a more aggressive overhaul. The extra funding is meant to address long-standing advisor complaints about clunky workflows and slow report generation. Envestnet also plans to expand its use of artificial intelligence and automation inside the platform, particularly for back-office tasks that tend to eat up staff time.
The broader $1 billion commitment covers more than just Tamarac. It includes upgrades across Envestnet's entire wealth management ecosystem, from account opening to performance analytics. But the company is clearly signaling that Tamarac is a top priority, given how central it has become to the daily operations of independent advisory firms.
Industry observers note that the timing makes sense. Competition among wealthtech providers has intensified, with newer entrants offering sleek, modern interfaces. By pouring more money into Tamarac, Envestnet is trying to keep its existing clients loyal while also attracting firms that may be considering a switch. The company has not given a specific timeline for when all the improvements will be visible to users, but early updates are expected within the next few quarters.
