Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd, trading on the NASDAQ as CRDO, has positioned itself as a fast-growing player in the AI infrastructure space. The company recently completed its acquisition of DustPhotonics on May 28, 2026, a move that brings silicon photonics photonic integrated circuit technology into its existing optical connectivity lineup.
By folding in DustPhotonics, Credo is building a deeper stack that reaches further into the optical layer of AI data centers. Hyperscale clusters running large language models and other compute-heavy workloads are pushing the limits of traditional copper interconnects. Optical links are becoming essential for moving data quickly across long distances inside a facility, and Credo wants to own more of that chain.
The acquisition gives Credo control over the photonic chips that convert electrical signals into light and back again. That is a critical piece for high-speed transceivers used in AI networks. Instead of relying on outside suppliers for these components, Credo can now integrate them directly into its own designs. The result is tighter performance, lower power consumption, and potentially faster time to market for new products.
Credo already had a strong reputation for its serializer-deserializer, or SerDes, technology and its active electrical cables. Adding photonic integrated circuits fills a gap in the optical side of the business. Industry watchers see this as a natural step for a company that wants to be a one-stop shop for connectivity in AI clusters.
The deal also signals that Credo is betting big on the long-term shift from electrical to optical interconnects inside data centers. As AI models grow larger and require more bandwidth between servers, the need for faster, more efficient optical links will only increase. Credo is positioning itself to meet that demand head-on.
