Marvell Technology Inc and Flex Ltd. are set to join the S&P 500 index later this month as part of the latest quarterly rebalance, according to an announcement from S&P Dow Jones Indices on Friday. The changes reflect the ongoing shift in market composition as the index adjusts to new market capitalizations and sector representation.
Marvell, a semiconductor company known for its data infrastructure and networking chips, will replace the electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive. Flex, a manufacturing and supply chain solutions provider, will take the spot of the medical device firm Illumina. Both additions are expected to take effect before the start of trading on Monday, March 24.
The inclusion in the S&P 500 is a significant milestone for any publicly traded company, as it often leads to increased visibility among institutional investors and index funds that track the benchmark. The index is widely regarded as a barometer for the overall health of the U.S. stock market.
The quarterly rebalance also saw other changes across various S&P indices, but the Marvell and Flex additions stand out due to their distinct roles in technology and manufacturing. Marvell's stock has gained attention amid the broader AI and data center boom, while Flex has benefited from steady demand in electronics manufacturing services.
