Patients in the Illinois Valley now have access to one of the newest robotic surgical systems available. OSF HealthCare has installed a da Vinci 5 unit at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru, expanding the range of minimally invasive procedures offered close to home.
The da Vinci 5 is the latest generation of robotic-assisted surgical technology. It gives surgeons enhanced precision, improved visualization, and better control during complex operations. Procedures that once required large incisions can now be performed through small openings, which often means less pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times for patients.
Hospital leaders say the investment reflects a commitment to keeping advanced care in the communities OSF serves. Rather than traveling to larger cities for certain surgeries, patients in and around Peru can now receive treatment locally.
Surgeons at the hospital have been trained on the new system and have begun using it for a range of cases. The technology is expected to support growth in surgical services across the region while maintaining a focus on safety and patient outcomes.
For residents who need surgery, the arrival of the da Vinci 5 means more options and fewer disruptions to daily life during recovery.
