PHARR, Texas — The City of Pharr is emerging as a key player in Texas’ rapidly growing semiconductor sector following a significant state investment. Governor Greg Abbott recently announced a $4.83 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to support Avant Technology’s expansion within the city. This strategic funding is expected to create approximately 250 high-skilled jobs, marking a transformative moment for the local economy.
The grant will enable Avant Technology to scale its manufacturing capabilities, reinforcing Pharr’s position in the supply chain for advanced chips used in everything from consumer electronics to automotive systems. City officials hailed the investment as a validation of Pharr’s pro-business environment and its strategic location near the U.S.-Mexico border, which offers logistical advantages for global trade.
“This expansion is a game-changer for our community,” said a Pharr city representative. “It brings not only well-paying jobs but also positions Pharr as a hub for innovation and technology in South Texas.”
The Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund was established to bolster domestic chip production and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. Avant Technology’s project aligns with broader state and national efforts to strengthen semiconductor independence. Construction and hiring are expected to begin in the coming months, with the facility aiming for full operational capacity by late 2025. Local leaders anticipate that the influx of skilled workers will stimulate ancillary businesses, from housing to retail, further energizing the region’s economic landscape.
