Leaders from the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority say they have been released from their non-disclosure agreement with Clearview Dynamics following a request.
The authority confirmed the change this week, noting that the company remains interested in building a potential data center in Roanoke County. The move lifts restrictions that had prevented board members from discussing certain details of the project in public.
Officials described the release as a procedural step. They said it does not signal that a final decision has been reached or that construction is guaranteed. Talks with the developer are expected to continue as the county weighs the benefits and drawbacks of a large computing facility.
Data centers have drawn growing attention across the region because of their demand for electricity, water and land. Supporters point to new tax revenue and construction jobs. Critics raise questions about strain on local utilities and the long term use of open space.
The authority has not released a timeline for any formal vote. Members said additional information will be shared once negotiations move forward. For now, the project remains under review, and residents can expect more discussion at upcoming public meetings.
