Seasats has opened a new 60,000-square-foot facility in San Diego as the autonomous vessel manufacturer moves to scale up production in response to rising demand for defense technology. The company said the expanded space will support manufacturing, testing, and engineering work as it pushes to deliver more of its unmanned surface vehicles to government and commercial customers.
The move comes as the defense sector increasingly looks to smaller, lower-cost autonomous platforms for missions that range from surveillance to maritime domain awareness. Seasats builds light, long-endurance vessels designed to operate at sea for extended periods without a crew, a capability that has drawn attention from military planners and researchers alike.
Alongside the facility opening, the company plans to grow its workforce by 50 percent. Hiring will focus on engineering, production, and operations roles needed to keep pace with a growing order book. Executives described the expansion as a necessary step to meet customer timelines and to position the company for future contracts.
San Diego's established defense and maritime industry gives Seasats access to skilled workers, suppliers, and testing grounds, making the region a practical base for scaling up. The new site replaces smaller quarters and adds capacity the company says it needs to move from prototype work toward sustained production.
