Investors looking for exposure to the artificial intelligence boom in 2026 are weighing two very different plays: SK Hynix, the memory chip giant, and Monday.com, the software platform. Both have strong stories, but they offer contrasting risk and reward profiles.
SK Hynix is a direct beneficiary of the AI hardware buildout. The company produces high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips that are essential for Nvidia's accelerators. This position has translated into stunning profitability. The firm boasts a net margin of 44 percent, a figure that reflects severe supply constraints and pricing power. Its balance sheet is also a fortress, with low debt and ample cash reserves. For investors who want pure exposure to the physical infrastructure of AI, SK Hynix is hard to beat.
Monday.com takes a different route. It sells work operating software, and its revenue growth is still strong at 27 percent. That is a solid number for a SaaS company. However, the quality of that growth is a concern. A large portion of its employee compensation is paid in stock, which dilutes existing shareholders. While this is common in tech, the scale of the burden here is notable. It eats into real cash earnings and makes the company's reported profits look better than they actually are.
The choice comes down to what you value. SK Hynix offers proven, cash-rich earnings today, but it is cyclical and tied to the volatile memory market. Monday.com offers faster potential upside if software adoption continues, but its shareholder returns are diluted by heavy stock issuance. For a conservative investor focused on current profitability and balance sheet strength, SK Hynix appears to be the safer bet. For someone willing to accept dilution in exchange for higher long-term growth, Monday.com might be more appealing. As 2026 unfolds, the market will likely reward whichever company can sustain its momentum without tripping over its own weaknesses.
