Two Washington and Lee University students have earned a spot at an upcoming academic conference focused on gaming and technology. Trey Custodio, a member of the class of 2026, and Sanjog Basnet, from the class of 2027, co-authored a research paper with Liz Matthews, an associate professor of computer science at the university.
Their paper, titled "Exploring User D...," was accepted for publication and presentation at the conference. The research explores user interactions within digital gaming environments, examining how players engage with complex systems and interfaces. Custodio and Basnet worked closely with Professor Matthews to design the study, collect data, and analyze findings over the course of several months.
The conference brings together scholars, developers, and industry professionals to discuss emerging trends in interactive media, user experience design, and computational gaming systems. For the students, the acceptance marks a significant academic milestone, offering them a platform to share their work with a broader audience of experts.
Matthews praised the students for their dedication and intellectual curiosity. She noted that their contributions to the project were substantial, with both taking on key roles in the research process. The team plans to present their findings in a formal session at the event, which will include a question-and-answer period with attendees.
This achievement highlights the growing emphasis on undergraduate research at Washington and Lee, particularly in the field of computer science and its intersection with entertainment technology.
